Information
The Danish architectural company SAGA designed a prototype of the lunar habitat. The building was inspired by ordinary origami. The architects Sebastian Aristotle and Carl John Sorensen combined the principle of origami folding with the bionic The method is combined to develop a lightweight and strong folding structure. In the future, the lunar surface base and residential area will be divided into several parts, which are used for rest, study and other aspects of normal life.

Both work and life astronauts need a fixed residential area, which is a house. The use of reinforced folding panels not only makes the residential area building stronger, but also gives the building a folding function. From folding to unfolding, the volume of the building has increased by 560%. When folded, it can be loaded into a standard container or rocket. At the same time, the vertical farm system in the habitat will help the astronauts get fresh food.

The built-in circadian rhythm system in the residential area can help people stay in sleep mode, simulate the sunrise and sunset on the earth, and use the slowly changing color wall to send out signals to tell them whether it is morning or evening. The architects also developed a weather simulator that can show sunny days on one day and heavy rain on another.

The exterior of the foldable building will be covered with solar cells to maximize energy generation. The thick thermal insulation layer will help keep the astronauts living inside warm, while also resisting wind speeds up to 90 kilometers per hour. SAGA has also developed a twin system that can monitor the status of habitats, use artificial intelligence to perform necessary maintenance in advance, and print replacement parts with an on-board 3D printer.

This summer, we will see a field prototype of this building in Antarctica, where they will resist the harshest environment on earth and perfect the space prototype design on the ground.
